Alithia Permaculture Farm Play Day
Alithia has been working to open doors within the community, creating connections and sharing knowledge.
The Valla Permaculture Farm is newly emerging in the area and has invited Alithia along for the journey. Currently they sell produce (such as chicken eggs and mangos), offer eco-farm-stays to people from the city to inspire a more sustainable approach to living, and lease garden space to other local growers who sell their produce at markets and provide food boxes to the community.
The April Alithia Play Day was held at the farm, where the hosts ran activities and provided a shaded, wooden play area, where families laughed and connected. As always we began with a welcome / warm up to switch on our brains and get grounded, focused and connected.
We were led on a walk, past the new dam, to visit the one hundred chickens and gather their eggs.... many cuddles were had!
The walk inspired questions and discoveries. Luckily we had our Forest School Facilitator with us again and the kids remembered from last month that Jodi is a wealth of knowledge if they have questions about plants and eco-systems.
Some children chose to plant paw paws, avocado seeds, moringa seeds and various other produce. Some took seeds home with them to continue their learning and incorporate into their meals. It was a great opportunity to ask about the science of permaculture and the growth of plants. Nic explained to the children that the seeds are first planted into the pots and are later transferred to the garden beds.
If you feel inspired to give it a go in your very own kitchen, here is some fun, quick, and simple ways to turn your meal into a garden!
At the farm, some children chose to feed the ducks, play outdoors, paint, or get creative in the many craft corners.
Another beautiful day full of discovery, inspiration, creativity and connection, learning from one another. Thank you to all who joined us, and to Nic and Amy at the Valla Permaculture Farm.
Alithia Play Days and Workshops are open to all, catering for families with children aged 0-12 years, and are a gold coin donation. Located on the Mid-North-Coast of NSW.
